Thanks to an agreement with Buffalo Telecom and Lucent Technologies, Friends of Night People Inc. is the recipient of a new telephone system,-which will allow the non-profit organization to better help Buffalo’s homeless, working poor and destitute. The arrangement itself comes as a welcome surprise.
One of FONP’s volunteers told a friend that the organization’s phone system has outlived its usefulness. Volunteers were having a difficult time making and receiving ordinary phone calls, and emergency calls were being put in jeopardy With no dedicated source of funding from any governmental agency, FONP was dependent on churches, schools and other sources of donations.
Luckily for FONP, that volunteer’s ‘Friend’ just happened to be Norm Zindle, one of the owners of Buffalo Telecom Inc., a company that had just made an agreement to be an authorized dealer of Lucent Technologies’ telephone equipment. Zindle contacted Dan Burns, general manager of Lucent Technologies, and together they arranged for a new "Partner Telephone" system to be installed at no cost to Friends of Night People.
The telephone system will ensure that FONP will continue to be able to provide meals, health care, clothing and support services free and without restrictions Friends of Night People Inc. still requires many items, especially during this holiday season. Donations of money, food, clothing, general supplies, basic office equipment and time are much appreciated. To make a donation, or for more information, contact FONP on their new phone system at 884-5375.
